Watch: Pro Sizing Tips from Dalton Reeves
Pro baseball player Dalton Reeves of the Savannah Bananas shares quick tips on choosing the correct ThumbPRO® size for baseball and softball players.
- Start with the weight-based sizing chart.
- Your ThumbPRO® should feel snug, not painfully tight.
- Players who prefer a locked-in performance fit may size down when between sizes.
- Players who prioritize comfort, or wear thicker batting gloves, may prefer sizing up.
How ThumbPRO® Sizing Works
ThumbPRO® sizing starts with weight because it provides the most reliable fit for most players. Hand size, batting glove thickness, and fit preference also matter, so use the chart as your starting point and fine-tune from there
Optional: How to Measure Your Thumb
If you want an extra fit check, wrap a string or ribbon around your thumb halfway between the first and second knuckles. Compare the fit with the size guide, but remember: weight is usually the best starting point.
Fit Tips for Baseball and Softball Players
- For a performance fit: If you are between sizes, many competitive players prefer sizing down for a more locked-in feel.
- For a comfort fit: If you want more room or dislike tight gear, consider sizing up.
- If you wear batting gloves: Think about whether your ThumbPRO® will be worn over your glove and whether your gloves are thin or padded.
- For younger players: Start with weight rather than age. Younger players may wear Small, Medium, or Large depending on their build, hand size, and batting glove thickness.

ThumbPRO® Sizing FAQs
What size ThumbPRO® should I buy?
Start with the sizing chart, then consider hand size, batting glove thickness, and fit preference. Small generally fits players under 115 lbs, Medium generally fits players from 115–195 lbs, and Large generally fits players 195+ lbs.
How do I choose the right baseball thumb guard size for my child?
Start with your player’s weight rather than age alone. Children ages 6 and up may wear Small, Medium, or Large depending on their weight, hand size, batting glove thickness, and fit preference. Use the ThumbPRO® sizing chart as your starting point.
Should ThumbPRO® feel tight?
ThumbPRO® should feel snug and secure, but not painfully tight. A secure fit helps the thumb guard stay in place during swings.
What if I am between sizes?
If you are between sizes, size down for a tighter performance fit or size up for more comfort.
Can I wear ThumbPRO® with batting gloves?
Yes. If you wear thicker batting gloves or plan to wear ThumbPRO® over your glove, consider that when choosing your size.
How long does it take to get used to wearing a thumb guard?
Most players adjust quickly, but first-time users should give ThumbPRO® a few at-bats to feel natural. Younger players may need a little more time as they adjust to something new. Parents often tell us that once their child gets used to ThumbPRO®, they feel more confident at the plate, no longer fear the sting, and do not want to hit without it.
