Thumb Guards Are Now Permitted in Little League
In 2025, Little League rules classified thumb protectors among products considered alterations or modifications to the bat and did not permit their use.
That changed for 2026.
Little League updated Rule 1.10 A.R. 2, “Products to Assist the Batter,” to permit the use of thumb protectors while continuing to prohibit products such as choke-knobs and choke-up assists. The change applies to both Little League Baseball and Softball.
For players and families who were unsure whether a thumb guard could be worn during Little League play, the new rule provides welcome clarity.
